Trip Generation by Microtrans

About Our Software

Trip Generation by Microtrans™, Version 6.1, software calculates traffic generation on the basis of the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) Eighth Edition, Trip Generation Report, 2008  and internal capture trips at multi-use developments using trip capture rates from the TRB, NCHRP Report 684, Enhancing Internal Trip Capture Estimation for Mixed-Use Developments.  This software has been used by transportation engineers and planners throughout the world since 1984 for:

r Traffic impact analyses

r Transportation and land use planning

r Site analysis

r Land use development

r Academic research

Carl H. Buttke, P.E. was the founding chairman of  ITE’s Trip Generation Committee from 1972-1994.  It was established to collect and analyze measurements of vehicle trip generation throughout the United States and Canada, a process that continues today.

The resulting Trip Generation Report is the most widely used resource for calculating trip generation in the United States.  From the original report which included 80 land uses, the Eighth Edition has grown to 162 land uses and more than 4,800 individual studies.

In 1984, Penny and Carl Buttke founded Microtrans, Inc. to develop trip generation software using the ITE data base. Microtrans is a family business:  Penny manages the product and Carl provides the technical expertise. As a practicing consulting transportation engineer, Carl wanted easy-to-use software that would allow the user flexibility for project analysis. He has designed and programmed all six versions of Trip Generation by Microtrans.  Through the years, the program has expanded to offer new options for more sophisticated analyses, but it still remains easy to use.

Version 6.1 was released in 2011.   Trip Generation by Microtrans has been updated with each new edition of the ITE report or other research results.
